Lucky Arrives at Sock Monkey Ranch

I had just finished trimming the hanging geraniums on the veranda when I spotted a long and lanky silhoutte limping up the drive. He wore a leather vest and chaps and looked like he had spent many a night on the road.

By the time he reached the porch, I had poured him a tall glass of sun tea and invited him to sit.
His name is Lucky, though I'm perplexed as to how he came by that name. He's a rodeo monkey. A bull rider. At least he was until he drew El Diablo in the 3rd round.

The bull threw him high into the air and when he came down he landed on the bull's horn in let's just say a very unfortunate spot.

I walked Lucky down to the bunkhouse and introduced him to Dusty, our ranch foreman.

Dusty agreed to put him to work until he gets back on his feet again. I think they'll get along fine.
That Lucky is quite the charmer. Just as I turned to go he took my hand, raised it to his lips and dropped the softest of kisses on it.

Thank you kindly, Miss Millie, I won't let you down." he said.

I'm quite certain I blushed. I wasn't entirely unpleasant, but Dusty must have thought I was offended because he quickly steered Lucky toward the barn muttering something about having him muck out the stalls. Not a very pleasant job for your first day.
