The Barn Dance

Last night's barn dance was a real fiasco!

Things started goin' bad early in the afternoon. Betsy and Skippy got in a fuss over whether to serve Steak-n-Beans with Cornbread (Betsy's idea) or Steak au Poivre and Ratatouille Provencale (Skippy's idea). I finally had to make the decision. Since I had no idea what the heck Steak au Poivre and Ratatouille Provencale are, I came down on Betsy's side, which didn't make Skippy too happy.

All the hands were workin' hard at gittin' the barn ready...all but Lucky, that is. I mighta known he'd be spend most of his time linin' up dances with the ladies!

Everything came together, finally, and the band was just firin' up when Miss Millie came through the door. Lordy, she was a sight to behold! I never seen her lookin' so purty.

Then I hears this cat call. That danged Lucky's got no respect for a real lady. I figured it was time somebody taught him a hard lesson in mindin' yer manners, but Miss Millie stepped in and settled us down.

Thing woulda been fine after that, but Lucky just kept gittin' under my skin with the way he was flirtin' with all the gals. That monkey just ain't got any scruples!

I finally cooled down and decided to ask Miss Millie for a dance. As soon as Lucky saw me headin' her way, he beat feet toward her, too. I got there first, but when I asked her to dance, she waltzed off with Lucky.

I couldn't stand to look at them, whirlin' round the floor. She looked like she was havin' so much fun. I felt like someone had gut shot me. Then I saw Lucky dance her right out the door.

That girl ain't got a clue about how ornery that low-down skunk can be, so I went over to check on them. Sure enough, just as I got there, he was forcin' a kiss on her. That did it!

I let fly with a cow punch, he swung back, and the fight was on! It took a herd of monkeys to pull us apart.

Lucky limped off and I escorted Miss Millie up to the ranch house. I intended to fill her in on what a no-account Lucky is and how he's just playin' her, but she was sputterin' mad, so I didn't git a chance to say a word.

I didn't git it...I had just rescued her from a snake and she was about to bite my head off!?

Then she did somethin' that blind-sided me. She kissed me!

Not a peck on the cheek either...a real kiss!

Now, I always dreamed of kissin' Miss Millie, but I never pictured it happenin' like this.

I was so stunned, I just walked away.

She has the softest lips...
